Does your business need a refresh or a rebrand?

Name the business change first. Then decide how much of the identity needs to move with it.

Describe the reason for the work.

A company entering a different market may need to explain itself differently. A business with inconsistent materials may need firmer design rules. Those are distinct starting points, even when both appear as a request for a new look.

Collect examples of what is happening. Repeated customer questions, mismatched materials or a service that is missing from the current story can all make the problem more concrete.

Identify what people already recognise.

A name, colour or symbol may carry useful recognition. Before changing it, consider where customers see it and what it means to them. Ask the people who handle enquiries which parts need explanation.

A refresh can refine the existing presentation while keeping that familiar foundation. A broader rebrand can revisit positioning, message and identity. The choice should follow the findings of the review.

Count the places that will change.

The new identity may need to reach invoices, proposals, packaging, signs, uniforms, social profiles and a website. Assign an owner to each item and note production or approval lead times.

Physical stock can affect the order of the rollout. A planned transition gives the business a way to manage that cost and keeps staff from using several conflicting versions at once.

Treat naming and website changes carefully.

A new name needs appropriate legal checks. USPTO guidance recommends looking for similar marks across relevant sources, including uses that may not appear as federal registrations. A trademark attorney can assess the situation.

Changes to a website address need a separate migration plan. Keep useful existing page addresses where practical and map redirects when they change. Review the working links after launch.

Make a retain/change list.

Divide the current identity into elements you can keep, elements that need refinement and elements that need replacing. Record the reason for each choice. That list makes a useful first brief.

We can review it with you and propose a manageable sequence. A refresh or rebrand should leave the team with a clear, usable system and a handover that supports the next stage.
